"america's frontier spirit is alive and well in the united states, even in the center of its biggest metropolis. Anna maria bounds breaks tired old stereotypes about northeastern urbanites and their politics, and brings to life the new yorkers who have been scarred by crisis, lost faith in government, and band together to prepare for survival. It is exactly what you want from a great ethnography: a vivid, engaging picture of a world that existed right in front of us, yet somehow remained invisible to the collective imagination. Essential reading for the sociology of politics, community, culture, and the city.
Prepare Emergency Food and Water
Someone who can't wait for the end of the
world
, and 'prepares' for it by hoarding food, guns, ammunition, water purification tablets, paracord , rice, mre , camouflage clothing, walmart gift cards, and pretend tea party 'money' that they think will be worth something someday. Often this fear/hope that society will end "any day now" is related to religious beliefs, distrust of a government they didn't vote for, and/or a shared delusion among their peers that only they are intelligent enough to "see the signs" of our collective impeding doom. A strong paramilitary aspect usually goes with the prepper lifestyle, even though most of them couldn't run a mile to save their own lives, never mind carrying some of the heaviest items possible on their backs; batteries, water, bullets, and gold.

Get to Know Your Neighbors
Venezuela is an economically brain dead country, and it will take years for it to recover. The large exodus of starving people will make things even harder. Because of the presence of contending forces of nicolas maduro and his trigger happy government troopers, the region is a clear example of what an economic collapse scenario looks like and how it affects the people. Regular citizens who did not want to, or did not enjoy, roaming the forests at night with the firm purpose of shooting their neighbors were just barely making it. Peasants who put out a crop or managed to forage wild edibles from the jungle usually had them rudely and forcibly ripped off by one or more of the contending groups.
By bob rodgers an urban prepper has to deal with much more problems when it comes to preparedness and survival, compared to their fellow preppers, living in small communities. They have to deal with limited space and always keep an eye on their neighbors. They never know who might be a friend or a foe, in a time of crisis. The strategies presented in this article are designed for preppers living in large cities. They are intended to give them an upper hand and increase their chances of survival. We have to acknowledge from the start that living in an urban environment isn’t ideal.
In time, it is a good idea to start building friendships and making allies to support you in this post-apocalyptic world. Living completely on your own starts to get difficult, and there is huge merit in teaming up with other families or neighbors to help share the workload. You do need to exercise caution: not everyone is trustworthy. Lay low for a good while after shtf, to allow the dust to settle and see who starts to come out of the woodwork. Looking out for other people in a similar situation as you is a good start, for example: if you are a family with children, consider reaching out to another family as its likely that they are just as scared and in need of comradery as you are.
Prep Bug-Out Bags in Your Vehicle
Those flimsy, particleboard shelves may be inexpensive, but they will not hold up long when you start piling bags of beans and cases of canned goods on them. Your best option would be wire shelving. It is sturdy and can tolerate more weight. You never know when disaster will strike. Your entire food storage could be wiped out in the blink of an eye. Place some caches around the area where you live, keep a bug out bag in every vehicle, and if possible, keep some supplies at your bug out location.

If you do have to bug out from an urban or suburban setting make sure and avoid main roads and freeways as these routes will be the ones that the majority of the other people will be using to get out of the city. It will not take much to see them unrecoverably clogged with both vehicles and with bodies. This will definitely slow you down and also is likely to subject you to considerable risk since desperate, scared people are not known for good decision making and will behave erratically, and often violently. No matter if you are an urban or a rural prepper you should make use a little known paths and hidden routes as much as you can.
How To Be An Urban Prepper
The rifle is the backbone of any fighting force, and every prepper should be a dedicated rifleman. When it comes to urban survival the theme of smaller is better continuing. In this situation the ar 15 is the king of fighting rifles. While it long range, higher powered sniper rifles like the remington 700 have their place, they don’t really fit neatly into a close quarters urban survival situation, and their use as an urban sniper is beyond the “scope” of this article. The ar 15 is a light rifle, that’s widely available and comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
I just received my four person 72hr emergency survival grab bag. Truly impressive. Everything you would need to keep you safe and sustained should shtf. Everything as advertised and carefully packed making it easy to separate the items between the two rucksacks. The wind up radio, two-way radios, folding shovel and headlamps are great. Nice compact sizes. The customer service is very good and i received a quick response to my query which shows that they value their customers. Highly recommended. I will be buying from this company again. Date of experience: 24 february 2022 reply from urbanpreppers hi kate, thank you very much for leaving this review.
Move fast and exit quickly- when a catastrophic event occurs pandemonium can erupt as people will flee to get to safety. In an urban area, the evacuation process will be a nightmare with the vast amount of people trying to go the same way. To ensure you have a speedy exit have your bug out bag packed and ready to go, have a plan of attack when exiting and don’t wait, just move. Preparing for environmental risks- the layout of an urban environment leaves many areas at risk as it can be attacked as a whole. If an attack occurs such as a chemical or gas attack the chemicals will travel fast and effect many in a short amount of time.
